Donald Trump Claims India is Reducing Tariffs

US President Donald Trump on Friday asserted that India had agreed to lower its import tariffs on American goods after he “exposed” the country’s trade policies.

Speaking at the White House, Trump stated, “India imposes massive tariffs on us… absolutely massive.”

He went on to say, “You can’t even sell anything in India. But now they have agreed—they want to bring their tariffs way down because someone has finally exposed them for what they’ve been doing.”

Trump’s remarks came at a time when India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal was in Washington for trade discussions with his US counterpart, Howard Lutnick.

Additionally, Trump criticized Canada’s high tariffs on dairy and lumber, suggesting that his administration might soon impose reciprocal tariffs on Canadian products.

“Our country has been taken advantage of by every nation—Canada, Mexico, India,” Trump remarked.
